Prix Ars Ars Electronica

FANTASY PRIX ARS 2001©

VOTING AND NOMINATIONS ARE NOW CLOSED. THE PROJECT HAS BEEN SUBMITTED TO THE PRIX ARS ELECTRONICA NET CATEGORY ALONG WITH THE RESULTS OF THE VOTING.
The results of the voting are as follows :
1st place 57% of the votes…………..RTMARK www.rtmark.com
2nd place 12% of the votes…………..Napster www.napster.com
3rd place with 7% of the votes……….Pizza (the food)
the remainder were divided among the other entrants.
Only time will tell whether the judges will heed YOUR advice!

note on the voting: it has been suggested to us that some candidates (without mentioning names) may have voted for themselves many times in order to win, we acknowledge that this has in fact happened but we do not see it as a reason for disqualification as we feel it demonstrates initiative and a 'can do' attitude which reflect the ethos of the Prix Ars Electronica.

The Prix Ars Electronica Net category
used to be an important, even major net.art award until 1999 when the judges, in their wisdom gave the prize to Linux a computer operating system, they following this up with a double whammy in 2000 when the prize was awarded to Neal Stephenson, a sci-fi writer even though neither had entered the competition. But the net art community gets the joke and this year we're participating by guessing the eventual winner of the category. So join the fun by playing Fantasy Prix Ars 2001©
It's not easy

being a judge for the Prix Ars Electronica Net category, every year hundreds of net art projects are submitted and you have to choose a winner from among those not submitted.
This project aims to simplify the process by enlisting the net.art community to do the judges thinking for them thus freeing up their time for more important tasks.

How does it work.

Until the 12th March we are accepting nominations for who YOU THINK will win the NET CATEGORY of the Prix Ars. Every entry will be put onto the site with the name of the submitter. As well as nominating a winner you have to suggest the tenuous link to net art that the judges might give in their judgment. If your nomination wins the Prix Ars you will win a fantastic prize!

The second stage is that from the 13th March nominations will be closed and there will be a week of voting where the community can decide the most likely winner from among the nominations. There will be another FABULOUS PRIZE for anyone who votes for the eventual winning entry.

When voting closes on the 20th March the project will be submitted to the Prix Ars NET category.

A prize will be awarded to both the person who suggests the eventual winner and everyone who votes for it (donations welcome).

We will take suggestions which will ALL be added to the voting list voting will commence Wednesday 13th March.

This project including the forum discussions will be submitted to the Prix Ars Electronica Net section.

yeah it's cool... isn't it? It's a community! It's visionary! They talk about Open Source, and boy, is *that* cool, um, whatever it's all about... anyway, we keep trying to apply Open Source to net art, even though we don't quite get what Open Source is, so we should probably award the prize to Slashdot, even though we don't quite get Slashdot either. Not only that, but Slashdot's really into discussing both Linux and Neal Stephenson, so it must be hip somehow.

Hmm, maybe we should just award the prize to Open Source. Can we do that? Who would we invite to pick up the Nica then... um... ok, lets stick with Slashdot....
